We’re often our own toughest critics when painting. I see it all the time in my workshops and in my own painting session too.
When that happens, I always remind them to take a step back. Looking at your painting from a distance helps you see it as a whole rather than focusing on small imperfections. And here’s a fun trick—leave it overnight and look again the next day. Almost always, it’ll look much better than you remembered! So before overworking a piece, give it space. You might already love it more than you think.
With this Butterfly and Pink Bananas painting, I wasn't totally happy with the colors on the butterfly wings. But when I stepped back, the whole composition still felt right and the wing color didn't matter much!
